The Award

The Orange Rising Star Award celebrates a young actor or actress of any nationality who has demonstrated exceptional talent and ambition and who has already begun to capture the imagination of the British public as a film star in the making.

The Orange Rising Star Award is unique as it is the only Award presented at the Orange British Academy Film Awards to be voted for by the British public. Film fans voted for their favourite Star via text message on the Orange Rising Star Award website .

Duncan Kenworthy, then Deputy Chairman of the Academy, said: "The Orange Rising Star Award is the perfect Award to be voted for by the public, as it's the British audience who create film stars by going to see their movies. This significant Award shines a very bright spotlight on the young actors and actresses who are on the cusp of movie stardom and helps in the important task of bringing on the talented next generation of acting talent."

The Orange Rising Star Award was launched at the Film Awards in 2006 and won by James McAvoy , who has since enjoyed exceptional success. In 2007 the British public voted for Eva Green as the star most likely to light up our screens.
